Balmorhea (pronounced Bal-moor-ay) is a band from Austin, Texas that was formed in 2006 by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller. Balmorhea were influenced by Ludovico Einaudi, The Six Parts Seven, Claude Debussy, Ludwig van Beethoven, Rachel's, Gillian Welch, Max Richter, Arvo Pärt and John Cage. The band self-released their first album, self-titled "Balmorhea", in April 2007, and their second album "Rivers Arms" in February 2008, and released a limited EP in the fall of 2008. The group recently released their 3rd full-length album, "All is Wild, All is Silent" on Western Vinyl Records. Balmorhea has toured the US three times and will soon begin their second European tour.
Nils Frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. During his childhood he was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski – a student of the last scholar of Tschaikowski. It was through this that Nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. Today Nils Frahm works as a composer and producer in Berlin. In early 2008 he founded Durton Studio, where he has worked with likeminded musicians. The three instrumentals, which make up his debut release ‘Wintermusik’ are piano led pieces, coloured with occasional celeste and reed organ parts. The record’s equal measures of sorrowful refrains and uplifting passages, combined with a real intimacy that makes for an album you’ll want to return to again and again. The songs were originally intended as a Christmas present for friends and family and first released on sonic pieces, hence its winter release via London-based cinematic music label Erased Tapes. |

New Wave, Punk oder Indie-Rock neu. Aber ihre finsteren Songschönheiten
und ihr nach vorne preschender Sound sind so was von entspannt, elegant
und süchtigmachend, dass ihre Herkunft ganz egal ist. |
